DOUG KELLY ABSTRACT EXPRESSIONISTIC LANDSCAPE PAINTINGS

Douglas Kelly artist bio
My focus is primarily in abstract expressionistic landscape paintings.
From an early age, growing up in a rural area of Iowa, I have always had an emotional connection with the outdoors. I am fascinated by the extremes in shape, color and texture that are found in nature along with the sense of solitude it brings.
My subject matter is a blend of landscapes and objects utilizing a spontaneous intensity in order to evoke a sense of constant motion. I emphasize the dynamics between color and black and white to create tension. I utilize multiple layers to enhance texture, depth and dimension.
I work with a variety of materials such as acrylics, texture gels, pastels, spray paint, colored pencil and charcoal on canvas in the production of my paintings.
I have been painting for over 30 years. I live and have a studio in Batavia, Illinois.
My influences are Jackson Pollock, Franz Kline, Robert Motherwell and many other artists from the New York School who practiced the gestural abstraction style of painting.
